Maria Marenkova

Maria Marenkova is a contemporary artist based in Moscow, working in non-figurative painting and printmaking.

She trained at the Institute of Contemporary Art founded by Joseph Backstein and at the Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute.

Her practice draws on the aesthetics of writing and on elements of magical realism, where the everyday is transformed through close attention. Central to her work is a deep investigation of texture: she works with the tactility and materiality of surfaces — metal, canvas, glass.

Maria exhibits widely. Her work has appeared at Russian and international fairs and group shows, and is held in private collections.
