About the work

A search for inner balance and for something spiritual to stand on.

The work takes up inner support as the point of balance between the bodily and the spiritual, the dense and the transparent, the material and the immaterial. It is about returning to yourself after a loss of wholeness — after anxious bodily sensation and inner splitting.

Axis is the image of an inner spine, woven step by step. It is not hard or rigid, but strong, and it holds firmly.

The horizontal white cloths are support, a symbol of equilibrium. The vertical axis is growth and the inner strength that experience earns.

The balance of textures, materials and colour is a metaphor for how we build our inner world out of many layers and many states.

Axis is made from light cotton thread and dense, textured sisal — the sisal is what gives the bodily sense of a vertical present in the space.
