A Look Inward sculpture series

About the work

A person is formed, grows, becomes themselves. The process is never instantaneous: look at any single moment in a life and you see everything that came before it, everything that led precisely there. That is the idea behind the series A Look Inward.

Twisted wire renders the sensation of time physically — the winding of the coils, the giving of form. Beyond the plain current of life we are also shaped by the obstacles we get past. Their consequences travel with us and are gradually built into our own "form". Here the wire binds together broken locks, keys and fragments of railings, objects that have lost their original function and are good for nothing now except to serve as the foundation of a new form.
